HELSINKI/STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Swedish paper group SCA (SCAb.ST: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) expects demand for newsprint to continue falling next year, its head told Reuters Paper Summit on Wednesday.
Asked about newsprint prices in Europe, Chief Executive Jan Johansson said the company would see "single digit" falls in prices. But the company later clarified that he meant to say demand and not prices.
Johansson also said the outlook did not apply to super-calendared (SC) and light-weight coated (LWC) magazine papers.
"We also see a very strong demand on the SC side, and the possibility to increase prices on SC and also to increase prices on LWC," he said.
SCA told its clients last week it would increase prices for SC by 4 percent and LWC by 6 percent, and Johansson said he was confident the price hike would go through even as slowing economies in Europe and U.S. hurt advertising market.
"I am absolutely sure about it," Johansson said.
